Sanitation Specialist (Back- End/ Thrower)

Riverside Disposal is looking for a back-end residential sanitation specialist to assist the route driver in the collection of waste and/or recyclable material. You must thrive in a fast paced environment and be able to work in the elements.

Your responsibilities and duties will be:

  • Collecting various types of curbside refuse

  • Constantly lifting up to 75 pounds throughout shift

  • Walking and or jogging constantly throughout shift

  • Comply with DOT and OSHA requirements as well as all local, state and federal laws

  • Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service related issues to Dispatch or Foreman

  • Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by Foreman and/or Administrative Staff

  • Manually or mechanically load and empty residential and/or commercial containers into truck and returned to residential location (containers may be staged curbside, dockside, carryout, or require pullout to complete service)

  • Assists the driver with all backing maneuvers while on route

  • Notifies Dispatch or Foreman of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage

  • Notifies Driver and Dispatch or Foreman of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards

  •  Communicates any customer requests to Driver and Dispatch or Foreman

  • Performs all duties as scheduled by Dispatch or Foreman and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs


 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Six months or more, relevant work experience

  • Must be dependable punctual - arriving on time each day

  • Required to use motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity

  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects - pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and lifting up to approximately 75 pounds (physical environment exposure includes but is not limited to extreme weather, dirt, odors, noise, etc.)

  • Normal setting for this job is outdoors and/or riding in a video/GPS monitored vehicle
